Alphonse is a young and innocent type boy that loves kitties. He is also proficient in Alchemy, though perhaps just a level under his brother. He has a large heart and knows that his brother would do anything for him and likewise he would do anything for his brother. Al can also attach part of his soul to any inanimate object, though large suits are his favourite.
[ Physical Appearance ]
Al has a sweet, young looking face with large brown eyes. His hair is dark blond and reaches to just below his shoulders, though he normally has it pulled back into a ponytail. Just under average height, Al's of a slender build, and doesn't carry a lot of muscle. He's often mistaken for being younger than his eighteen years, due to having a smaller build, which came about from his body being malnourished for a good number of years.
Even when out of uniform, Al's appearance is usually neat and tidy, though still casual. In the cooler weather he wears jeans and t-shirts, often with an open short sleeved shirt over the top. In the summer, he's more often seen in long shorts and tank tops. He wears boots when the weather calls for it, otherwise he's often seen in canvas style trainers.
[ Personality ]
Al's a total sweetheart. Soft spoken and kind hearted, Al's the type of person who would try to do anything for anyone, no matter the odds. Whilst there doesn't seem to be a mean bone in his body, he's more than capable of standing up for himself, and those he cares about. Due to being quiet and conscientious, Al's often mistaken for being shy.
Al's sensitive, especially when it involves his beloved cats, and displays his emotions openly. That said, he's of a very mild temperament, and has an innate skill in getting more hot headed people to calm down. Despite his age, Al comes across as innocent, and is very naive. He believes that there's good in everyone, and strives to find it, despite glaring contrary evidence.
[ History ]
Trisha Elric bought up her two sons, Edward and Alphonse, in the small village of Resembool. Their father, a talented alchemist called Hohenheim of Light, left home when the brothers were still very young. Just a few years later, Trisha died of a terminal illness that she had kept concealed from her children. . As Hohenheim made no signs of returning to look after his children, Ed and Al ended up living in the home of their childhood friend, Winry Rockbell, and her grandmother. During a terrible storm that threatened to ruin Resembool with heavy floods, Ed and Al witnessed a young woman called Izumi performing alchemy to protect the village. Impressed at how powerful she seemed, they asked her to take them on as apprentices. She refused at first, but after hearing about what had happened to their mother, had a change of heart, and agreed to teach them if they could survive for a month alone on an island. They passed, and she taught them alchemy.
Once they had completed their training and returned to Resembool, their intention was to revive their mother with the use of alchemy. Using their father's notes, they gathered the right materials needed, and set about bringing Trisha back to life. When it came to the night of performing said task, Al had his doubts, and didn't want to go ahead with the transmutation. It turned out that the ingredients they used weren't enough, and so to meet the equivalent exchange, Ed's leg was taken, and Al lost his entire body.
Ed then sacrificed his arm to bind Al's soul to a nearby, somewhat fearsome looking, suit of armour, effectively saving his life. Through all that, all they bought back was a quivering mass of flesh, resembling nothing of their mother. It soon died after being bought back to this world. Determined to restore their real bodies, the brothers set out to look for the Philosopher's Stone, which could restore their bodies whilst bypassing the equivalent exchange. Al existed as a literal 'ghost in the shell', unable to eat, sleep, or feel his brother's comforting touch. Despite this, Al remained for the most part his gentle mannered and kind hearted self, rarely complaining about the situation he was in. The blood seal drawn at the neck of the armour was the only thing linking him to the metal, if it was destroyed or wiped away, Al would die.
Whilst Al's soul resided in the armour, his body remained at the Gate, malnourished and unkempt, but very much alive. The brothers later theorised that Ed's small stature, despite what he ate, could be attributed to the fact that his body was supplying Al's with nutrients, enough to keep him alive. Al's body couldn't leave the Gate without his soul, and as the armour couldn't hold his soul forever, it started to reject it when Al's body called out for it.
Through a series of events that ended up with Al's armoured body being transmuted into explosives, an incomplete Philosophers stone was transferred into his body, saving his life, thus making Al the Philosophers Stone. When his beloved older brother was killed before his eyes, Al used the Philosopher's Stone to bring him back, sacrificing his armoured body. Because the blood seal was broken, Al was killed. Ed, in turn, offered his body in exchange for Al's return, and so his body and soul were brought back from the Gate, together.
Their traumatic events behind them, and with no family to speak of, the Elrics decided to attend Dusk Academy. Al wanted to go wherever his big brother did, and with a natural love of learning, the academy seemed the ideal place.
[ Pets ]
Al has a grey kitten he calls Flamel, but he's liable to pick up any waifs and strays that he comes across.

Al doesn't use weapons, he relies on his fists and his alchemy for protection. He's a little less skilled in alchemy than his brother is, but he tends to be better at physical fighting, with the automail advantage aside. He can also use alchemy without needing a transmutation circle; he had a near death experience that bought back his memories of seeing the Gate, and thus, the Truth within.
Al's unique in the way that he can detach parts of his soul and link them to inanimate objects. Since his soul was once ripped from his body, it's a little easier to remove than most people's. There's no limit on just how much he can control at one time, it doesn't seem to take much from him at all to control a number of objects at once, if he's in close proximity to them.
But over long distances, he's limited to only using one object, and whilst he controls it, he appears to be asleep, or unconscious. There's a time limit to how long a part of his soul can remain in the object, depending on how far away it is from his body. His choice of object is usually suits of armour, he has better control over them as they resemble a human figure. Al can see and hear through the inanimate objects if he is only controlling the one of them.
